How does Xyzal Compare to Other Allergy Medications?

Get Wise on All Things Allergies

Allergy symptoms can present themselves in a variety of ways: nasal congestion,* runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, throat, and skin irritation.*  Reactions are unique to the individual but if you’re prone to any allergic reactions, you’re not alone—a whopping 19.2 million adults 18+ were diagnosed with hay fever in 2018.1

When exposed to an allergen you are sensitive to, your immune system overreacts by producing antibodies. These antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals and substances like histamine.

Histamine is a chemical released by cells of the immune system when the body encounters an allergen. This is what can actually cause an allergic reaction.

An allergic reaction occurs when the immune system overreacts to a usually harmless substance known as an allergen. Some common allergens include dust, pollen, and pet dander. Thankfully, there are antihistamines available by prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) to help alleviate allergy symptoms.

How Oral Antihistamines Work

Antihistamines block the effects of histamines in your body. Histamine is normally released when your body detects something harmful. But in people with allergies, the body mistakes something harmless, such as pollen, animal hair or house dust, for a threat. The histamine causes an allergic reaction with unpleasant symptoms including itchy, watery eyes, a runny nose, and/or sneezing.

More often than not, being proactive with your allergy regimen can stop the suffering before it even starts. For preventative action, check your local pollen count to avoid unexpectedly running into high pollen areas and install a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter inside your home. Quality air filters catch pollen and other indoor allergens before they reach you. If you continue to have issues with allergies, consider trying Xyzal to help manage your symptoms.

For the allergy relief you need, it’s important to understand the differences among your options. With the number of oral antihistamines out there, it can be confusing to know which one is right for you and your family. Let’s take a deeper look at how antihistamines work and how they hold up in a side-by-side comparison.

Xyzal vs Zyrtec®

On first dose, Xyzal provides the same relief as Zyrtec. The main difference between the two products is in the size of pill; Xyzal pills are nearly half the size as Zyrtec pills. So, when looking for a smaller tablet, consider Xyzal.

As you can see, a side-by-side comparison of Xyzal vs Zyrtec highlights primary differences as well as similarities between the two medicines. Ultimately, the choice of a medicine is a personal preference and one that should be discussed with your healthcare provider or doctor. They can help you decide which is best for your unique situation.
